• Gulgong Pioneers Museum
• Mudgee brewery
One of the places that were suggested for me to visit while in Mudgee was Gulgong – so today I went there. I must be getting a bit Australian about distances as I thought nothing of driving 30km for a morning out.
The highlight was the Pioneers Museum. This is a local museum on steroids. Instead of having three or four examples of some exhibits, they had twenty or thirty. There was also a huge variety of exhibits – from phonographs to fire engines. In the end I had to give up – there was just too much to take in.

Back to Mudgee and a visit to the eponymously named Mudgee brewery. I walked into town in the spitting rain – I don’t know if it was really raining or just the air was too humid to contain the water. I seem to be avoiding the rain – some of the games I have seen on TV have been played in torrential rain. Talking of TV, it is amusing to me to see how it changes as I move around. When I was in Adelaide and Melbourne, the Friday Night Footie was Aussie rules. Since I reached Sydney, it has changed to rugby league. Also, the adverts have changed – the local channel is based in Orange, with adverts for tractors and weedkiller.
Anyway, back to the brewery. The range was not the biggest, but the beers were all good. There were even a couple from another of the local breweries. For a change I had a pizza for lunch then got a taxi back to the hotel to watch the funeral of Pope Francis.
