The hotel reminds me of a fading star. The rooms are grand, the windows tall, and the entrance imposing. However, there cracks in the facade – cracks in the leather chair, the door to the fridge opens in the opposite direction to the fridge door, the bathroom door is hard to open.
Also, the hotel is not quiet. After a stressful day yesterday, I was hoping for a restful night. Unfortunately, I have some elephants upstairs, and the muzak is too loud. All in all not good preparation for a day in Melbourne.
Melbourne skyline
Melbourne has a totally different feel from Adelaide. Melbourne feels established, making Adelaide feel new. There are a lot of traditional buildings, and parks with established trees. Melbourne is much greener, but that could be because it is further south. But there are always the new buildings behind them.

I spent the morning at the Melbourne Museum, particularly in the First Australians gallery. It was very interesting, but there needed to provide more space seats. Also, the audio was all loud, so it was another day of sensory overload. By the time I got the café I was beat!
On the way back, I called at the delightfully named Elephant & Wheelbarrow (“a traditional British pub”). The beer was good, so I stayed for a few, then back to the hotel. Less muzak but still the elephants.
