๐Ÿš— Halls Gap - Melbourne

๐Ÿ“ Day's Highlights

โ€ข driving

I was sorry to leave Gariwerd, but time to move on. Back behind the wheel as I head for my furthest south destination.

Back to the chippy for breakfast โ€“ lovely waffles with fruit and ice-cream. Stopped on the way to chat with a couple of bikers โ€“ discussing bikes and the TT.

Then on the road, heading north to go south. The drive was very peaceful to start with โ€“ lots of open roads. I stopped at Ballarat (sorry Ballalongtail) for coffee. I was hoping for a local museum as it was the centre of the Victoria goldrush, but was out of luck.

A lorryload of wine

I notice a lot of things while driving. For example, the variety of trucks on the road. Most of the trucks are American styled with noses โ€“ Kenworth, Mack, Western Star and even the odd Peterbilt. There have been two surprises though. There are a lot of Kenworth flat-front trucks (cabovers), and a surprising number of โ€œEuropeanโ€ models (Volvo, Scania, MAN & Mercedes). I didnโ€™t see as many today as I did on Tuesday โ€“ maybe they have all knocked off for the weekend?

Melbourne madness

Confused? I was!

After the open roads, I hit traffic on the outskirts of Melbourne. Eventually, I got off the freeway and started to navigate the streets. Some of the rules in Melbourne seem lunatic (right turn only from the left lane!) and trying to find a street is a nightmare. After going past my hotel twice on the wrong side of the road, I stopped illegally and went into the hotel. Thank goodness for valet parking.

After a shower I went down to the hotel bar. Good food but pricy beer. Back to my room for Friday Night Footy.
