April 24th - Day 26

Sydney to the Blue Mountains

Up early to head inland. The day did not look promising. It started out grey, and the closer we got to the mountains, the greyer it got. By the time we were climbing, the clouds were very low.

Our first stop was Wentworth Falls. As we groped in the mist, I had a lovely aural picture, but all you could see were the clouds.

Undeterred, we set off for the Three Sisters, just outside Katoomba. I know it is ANZAC weekend, but even so, the number of visitors there was astounding. What amazed David and myself was the extraordinary number over orientals. They seemed to outnumber everyone else. Also, some of them can be very pushy, which made taking pictures hard if you wanted to avoid people in the shot.

In the Blue Mountains I came across the first autumn colour trees. They were lovely to look at - but in April??? This place confuses me. I have no idea with regards to distance or direction.

To get some breathing space, I followed a cliff walk. Due to the rain it was sometimes a bit of a cliff paddle, but I got some lovely pictures. We then went to the hotel, which is very posh. I had some difficulties getting into my room, but once they were overcome, I was in. We then headed back to Leura for a late lunch. We missed the place that was recommended the first time, which meant we trailed down the main street to get round the block. When we got back, the queue was out of the door, so we went looking for somewhere else. The whole town was packed! We tried several places, but they all had long queues. In the end, we settled on a cafe, and got sandwiches and chips. Lane had a pie.

Back to the hotel to kick back and relax. Well that was the plan. I think 3 days of lots of people was too much for me, and I had a panic attack when going to dinner. Spoke to mum this evening, and it is the "toys in the corner" calling to me. Lane and David have been wonderful, but 3 weeks is someone's company is a lot more than I am used to.
