• Katoomba
I am staying in a place that is very quiet. The good news about that is that I can hear the birds singing. The bad news is that it is a long way to walk to breakfast. I found that out this morning. However, the walk was along a creek accompanied by birdsong – I am pretty sure I heard a kookaburra (I saw one yesterday). Despite the altitude, even by 9am, it was hot.

After breakfast, I caught the train to Katoomba. One of the disadvantages of being here over the Easter weekend is that everywhere is heaving! I walked a fair way from the station to find a coffee shop with space to sit down. The Mountain Culture brewery was moderately busy when I got there, but by the time I left it was heaving.

Another disadvantage is that most eateries have added a public holiday surcharge, and some have trimmed their menus. The upshot is that as far as I can see, I will have to go to Katoomba to get some lunch tomorrow.
Back to Wentworth Falls on the train. When I got back, I rang for a taxi and spent my time until it came watching the sulphur-crested cockatoos. Back to my room, to sit outside and read until the cool evening drove me inside to light the fire.

Tonight is my halfway point. I have done a lot in the last four weeks and coped better than I had expected with most of it.
