🛶 Murray River

📝 Day's Highlights

• kayaking on the Murray River

I am certainly building a list of different modes of travel here. So far I have chauffeur-driven car, tram, train, self-drive car, ferry, quad-bike and kayak.

This morning, I went kayaking on the Murray River, and this evening I am paying for it.

It was a good morning. Apart from one boat, I was alone with the birds. There were plenty of pelicans and ducks to keep me company. It took me a little while to get used to paddling, but after that it was relatively easy. Or it was until I grounded and had a terrible time trying to refloat myself. But after 3 hours, I was worn out and must admit I was glad to get back on dry land.

🧠 Fact of the Day

Ajax Achilles lake is named after two barges that ended up there at the end of their working lives

Getting back on dry land. I had managed fine once I was sitting centrally in the kayak. Coming into the shore of Gurra Gurra Creek (which flows into the Murray River), I get to shore, then getting out I fell into the river and soaked just about everything except the camera (not my good one)

It was when I uploaded my pictures, that I realised that I do not get on with this camera. It has a horribly slow shutter speed, coupled with a delay in taking the picture. So most of my pictures were washouts.

I also hadn’t taken precautions for rowing out here. I had on a T-shirt and shorts and now have lovely red knees and shoulders that ache. And tomorrow is in my itinerary as my longest drive…
