📍Kangaroo Island

📝 Day's Highlights

• quadbiking
• Seal Bay

When I was being driven into Adelaide last Sunday, my driver asked me why I was going to Kangaroo Island (KI). After today, I know why!

The day didn’t start too well. I set my alarm, woke up, and went straight back to sleep. This meant I had to rush my breakfast. I was rushing so that I wasn't late for one of my booked activities. I wasn't sure how long to allow – I am still learning how long it takes to get from A to B – 110kmh sounds fast until you realise you how far you have to go.

My activity was quad-biking. I found the place after a wrong turn and was early. This was great, because they were able to take me out on my own. Dave (my guide) was very understanding. I had plenty of time to practice, taking several extra test laps to get the hang of the quad. Then we headed out. I had told Dave that I was looking for wildlife, and his sharp eyes found it. We saw a male koala and a pair of kangaroos, and then – the prize. The group ahead found a koala really low down in a place where they were not usually seen. How low? See the picture! The whole morning was brilliant!

🧠 Fact of the Day

Kangaroo Island is called Karta Pintingga in Kaurna - literally "Island of the Dead"

As a follow up, Dave suggested I visit Seal Bay. That was also a brilliant suggestion. I was able to visit the beach with an National Park expert who told us all about the Australian sea lions. I have so many pictures.

After seeing kangaroos, I must admit to feeling a little bit bad about eating kangaroo for dinner (even though it is delicious!). Now I am sitting listening to the wind blowing through the trees outside – and I have the ferry tomorrow.
